Time to Decorate the Office: 4 Steps to Avoid Accidents on Your Portable Work Platform
Posted on: 13 December 2016
The holidays are here. It's time to set the decorations up. If you're going to be decorating the office, don't take chances with your safety or the safety of your employees. Instead of using ordinary ladders, bring in a portable work platform. Unlike ordinary ladders, portable work platforms provide you with a solid surface to maneuver from. Before you start decorating your office, here are four safety tips that will prevent accidents.
Avoid Electrical Wires
If you're going to be decorating the outside of your office building, you'll need to identify electrical wires before you set up your work platform. Setting up your platform near electrical wires could create extreme hazards for anyone who'll be accessing the work area. This is particularly true if you'll be using poles or other devices to string the lights on your building.
Set Up on Solid Ground
When setting up your platform, be sure you place it on solid ground. The last thing you want is to have it collapse because it's set up on an uneven surface. If the area where you need to work is not solid, place a piece of plywood on the ground and set your platform up on that. Be sure to move the plywood with you as you maneuver your work platform around the building. It's also important to remember that you should never set your platform up on an incline.
Lock the Wheels
Your work platform will come with locking wheels. Locking them will ensure that the platform stays safely locked in place while you're using it. To avoid accidents, be sure the wheels are locked each time you use the platform. Failure to do so could cause the platform to roll while you're setting up your decorations. It's also a good idea to place a wheel chock behind at least one of the wheels. The chock will lock the wheel in place, and serve as a reminder to engage the on-board wheel locks.
Know the Weight Standards
Before you start using your platform, be sure you know the weight standards for the model that you'll be using. Knowing the weight standards for your platform can prevent accidents. Be sure to consider the weight of the person, as well as the weight of the equipment and containers that you'll be placing on the platform.
It's time to decorate the office. Instead of bringing out your old ladders, rent a portable work platform. The tips provided here will keep you and your employees safe while decorating the office.
