3 Hand Truck Upgrades To Consider For Your Move

Posted on: 7 November 2018

If you are planning on a DIY move, then you already know you will need a hand truck. Hand trucks are available at most hardware and home improvement centers. The problem is that the traditional hand truck may not supply you the transportation assistance you need. With that in mind, you should consider these three hand truck upgrades. Each one can give you benefits that traditional options may not.

Push Cart Conversion

One of the first upgrades to consider is a push cart conversion. What this means is that the hand truck has an additional set of wheels that are on the back of the truck. When you lay the hand truck flat, the two sets of wheels lay on the ground. The hand truck then converts to a push cart option that can hold boxes, furniture that is laid flat, or heavy appliances. It allows you to get the items in and out of an area without having to keep the hand truck leaned back on just two wheels. It provides a safer transport option for heavier items and less chance of hurting your body during the transport.

Folding Options

If you will have limited space in your moving van or truck, then you may want to consider a folding hand truck model. These folding models allow you to place the hand truck flat during transport. Even in tightly packed storage and moving vans or pods, the hand truck will fit. The folding option does usually come with heavy duty upgrades like the previously mentioned push cart conversion. You can also find options with attached utility and ratchet straps.

Locking Wheels

Most hand trucks do not have locking wheels. This is fine when you are moving items quickly or the items are not heavy loads. However, if you are moving heavy loads and you are on an incline, having locking wheels can make a world of difference. The wheels can also prevent the chance of the items falling or the hand truck rolling back on you. This reduces injury chances during the move, especially if you are handling it yourself or with just one other assistant.

There are hand trucks that offer all of these upgrades in more. If you aren't sure which one may be right for your needs, consider what you will be moving. Ask your hardware store manager. They can guide you to the right models they have in stock and answer the questions you have about each one.
